So after an absolutely serene week we are back home to palm trees, 100% humidity and work! But to be completely honest; even though I already miss the mountains in the horizon and the epic sunsets, it is certainly nice to wake up in our own bed. Hope everyone is having a great week!
It’s been a while since our last vacation, too long actually. Our wedding getaway in Vegas definitely counts but even that was 7 months ago! So I’m beyond happy my sister in law (just sister in my book) decided to plan a family vacation for us. Mike’s family lives in PA which means we only get to see each other a few times a year so family trips like these are much needed. I also love the fact that she decided on a cabin in Gatlingburg, TN with an awesome view of the smokies and a kitchen begging for delicious family dinners. It’s needless to say I’ll be bringing my camera and every lens I own. Now packing….that’s another story. What to bring???
I’m not sure if it’s the fact that I am a hopeless romantic, the abundance of chocolate and other sweets suddenly everywhere, or the variety of beautiful shades of pinks and reds splashed across greeting cards and decorations; but I look forward to Valentine’s day every year. So much so, that when strolling through the isles of my supermarket earlier in the week, I couldn’t help but pick up a Box of Pillsbury Valentine’s Day Fun-fetti cake mix and tub of icing to match. Now I will admit making cake or cupcakes from a box totally feels like cheating, but the way these turned out made me feel like good things can definitely come in small cardboard packages. I really enjoyed making and decorating these and they definitely have me looking forward to more V-day decadence. What are your plans to celebrate romance?
Today could easily be described as the perfect day. Our best friends (and possibly the cutest couple I know) Steve and Jess; came over for a little poolside picnic and some fun in the sun. It turned out to be perfect cure for the blues that seemed to have gotten ahold of me just last week. We laughed, talked, ate, took silly photos, and when the sun was all gone; we headed indoors for a movie and burgers. It was in a nutshell the best way we could have spent a Sunday. I wish you all a good night and a fantastic week ahead!
P.S. can you believe it’s in the mid 70s in Florida; what ever happened to winter?
This past weekend was filled nothing but joy. It started with a small celebration for my birthday on Friday. We had my parents over for dinner, a few drinks and cake. Michael made one of my favorites; Chili! his recipe is delicious, (I promise to get it from him and post it in the near future) followed by Fun-Fetti Cake for dessert. It’s one of my favorites (reminds me of growing up) and has now become a birthday tradition for us. Saturday night followed; actually the eve of Michael’s birthday (how crazy our birthdays are two days apart?!). We celebrated with family and friends at one of our favorite places in town; The Blind Monk ; a small wine and tapas bar. It was beyond fun and I couldn’t have thought of a better way to ring in our birthdays. However the fun didn’t end there, we had no plans for our Sunday (we usually lay around the house all day) but our friends came over with cake and every intention of keeping the party going. It turned out to be a blast! I got inspired and made beef bourguignon , which I am proud to say (without gloating) turned out very good. I am so grateful for Michael, my parents and all of our friends.
